Nacha Mendez is an award-winning singer-songwriter who weaves her heritage and life experiences into every note and lyric. Born and raised in the small border town of La Union, New Mexico, she discovered her passion for music early on, singing and playing guitar as a child. Her love for traditional Ranchera canción blossomed under the guidance of her grandmother, whose teachings became the foundation of Nacha’s musical journey.
As a young performer, Nacha graced stages in border towns near El Paso, collaborating with her cousins, the Black Brothers—sons of the legendary Jimmy Carl Black, drummer for Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention. These formative experiences shaped her unique style, a blend of traditional Mexican folk, Latin fusion, and contemporary influences.
An enrolled member of the Chihene Nde Nation of New Mexico, Nacha’s music reflects her deep connection to her Indigenous and borderland roots. Through her evocative voice and storytelling, she continues to inspire audiences with songs that celebrate culture, resilience, and the beauty of shared traditions.
